General Purpose Controller: COMPASS

The Compass controller (COmplex Multi-Purpose Acquisition/Stimulation System) is intended to be a general-purpose computational unit for automotive 12V applications (chassis mounted, with maximum ambient temperature of 85°C).

In order to deploy all its functionalities in an automotive environment, the Compass Module has been designed to provide considerable processing power through a multi-core platform, to include the state-of-the-art safety architectural solutions and to be fitted in a small and robust case.

Example of use are as “energy supervisor” for EVs (Energy Management System), or as Vehicle Control Unit in both EVs and ICE vehicles.

  • Flexible general purpose I/Os, including analog I/Os, digital/frequency inputs (including one differential VR sensor) and various outputs with PWM capability (including half-bridges with current sensing, e.g to drive DC-motors, electro-valves or power contactors with peak&hold programmable current profile)
  • Integrated redundant 6-axis accelerometer/gyroscope

Customizable firmware

Possibility to implement custom control strategies and communication protocols.

Communication

CAN (CAN-FD and CAN 2.0B) and Ethernet (100Base-T1), RS-232/RS-485 , LIN line communication.

Mechanical Design

Compass mechanical housing has an aluminium base plate acting as a heatsink. The mechanical housing has been designed to fulfil the following characteristics:

  • Weight: less than 0.4 kg
  • Physical dimensions (L x W x H): 152mm x 137mm x 34mm
  • Grade: IP67
